What does it mean un-stretched canvas?

An un-stretched painting means that the painting is on a 100% triple primed canvas. The canvas should then be stretched and secured to a wooden frame also known as stretcher bars. These stretcher bars come in all different sizes and thickness.

The most common thickness for stretcher bars is three forths (3/4) of an inch and this thickness is ideal for having mounted in to a frame.

However if you do not wish to have the painting framed then having the painting stretched on 1.5 inch stretcher bars is your best option.

This is often referred to as gallery wrapped which means the face of the painting wraps around the sides of the stretcher bars. The sides can be left as is, painted black, or painted a custom color to match a color used within the painting.

If you would details about having your painting stretched please email and we can discuss your options. If you purchase an unstretched painting from me then you will receive a discount on the stretching service.
